• On-Line Zakat Payment Facilities

This service provides a convenient way of fullfilling one of the pillars of Islam. Over the past years we have noticed that more and more members are using our service. Because of the importance of zakat, this service is open to all Muslims regardless of whether they are Melayu UK members or not.

  • Hari Raya Party

Eid ul-Fitr (a celebration to mark the end of the fasting month, Ramadan) and Eid ul-Adha are joyous times for Muslims. Melayu UK organises Eid parties on these occasions..

Ramadan and generosity

Assalamu alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

Ramadan is a month that many people associate with generosity. It a month when we remember the pleasure of inviting others for iftar and we feel the pleasure to make generous donation on top of the obligatory zakat that we have to pay. It is a month that motivates us to do more ibadah.

Let us also make this Ramadan as an occasion that triggers our generosity to help build a better Melayu UK. We are trying to build the necessary infrastructure to enable the Malays in the UK to learn, know and practise the valuable Malay language and culture. Currently we are putting a lot of emphasis in attracting the young generation to be proactive in Melayu UK. Our Perhimpunan Keluarga will inshaAllah be held annually from now on. We are also organising a Young People’s Comic Competition with prizes totalling £500 and there are many more activities that we want to organise in the future.

With no revenue from membership fees, whatever infrastructure that we want to build or activities that we want to organise can only be achieved through a collective effort of “gotong royong” and “berat sama dipikul, ringan sama dijinjing”. As the human society becomes more individualistic, the spirit of gotong royong is becoming less common. However, this does not mean that gotong royong is no longer relevant. It is still relevant and important. It is also enjoined by Islam as stated in the Quran وَتَعَاوَنُواْ عَلَى ٱلۡبِرِّ وَٱلتَّقۡوَىٰ‌ِ‌ۚ (meaning: Help ye one another in righteousness and piety).

I would like to invite all members to make this Ramadan as a trigger for our generosity in order to build a successful Melayu UK by making a monthly donation of £1. It is a small amount that can never make us poor. Through a collective gotong royong in fundraising, that small amount will be able to help us build the necessary infrastructure for our community. The easiest way for us to get the instant benefit of our £1 monthly donation is by having the intention of making the donation for the sake of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala.

Please set up a monthly standing order of £1 into our Melayu UK general account:

Ramadan karim to everyone.
